What Is The Difference Between A Guardian Of The Person And A Guardian Of The Property?
Guardian of the person is someone who is appointed to make decisions about your person. Essentially, in the event the person is over the age of 18 and a guardianship of the person is sought, it is like a parent who is doing the same job that they would do as if they were caring for a child. Making medical decisions for you, housing decisions, what you eat, where you live, things like that. In the circumstance where someone gets appointed as a guardian over your property, that's called a guardianship of the estate. And that person is responsible for managing your finances, property, real property and personal property, bank accounts and things of that nature to ensure that those assets are protected.
